On November 15, 2021, Claude Gamel was awarded the Grammaticakis-Neumann Prize at the opening ceremony of the prestigious Académie des sciences morales et politiques (quai Conti, Paris).
This annual prize is awarded for the best scientific work compatible with the spirit of pragmatic philosophy. It is awarded alternately by the Philosophy, Morals and Sociology and Political Economy, Statistics and Finance sections. The professor was awarded the prize for his book Esquisse d'un libéralisme soutenable. Travail, capacités, revenu de base (Presses Universitaires de France, 2021).
A prize combining research and philosophy
Claude Gamel holds a doctorate from the Université d'Aix-Marseille III (1986) and an agrégé de l'enseignement supérieur in economics (1988). He was appointed professor at the Université de la Réunion, before joining the Université Paul Cézanne in 1992. He is currently professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management and researcher at the Laboratoire d'Économie et de Sociologie du Travail (LEST). The Grammaticakis-Neumann Prize is awarded in recognition of almost 40 years of research into theories of social justice and their implications and applications in the field of public policy, at the interface between philosophy and economics.
