Heritage: a strong field for research and training

Did you know? Aix-Marseille Université's research and training potential in the field of heritage is immense! AMU offers a wide range of heritage-related courses from bachelor's to doctorate level, involving over 1,300 students this year. Among them, the Master's degree in History, Civilization and Heritage focuses particularly on the issue of heritage conservation. It opens onto digital humanities and the links between conservation and mediation. Bérénice Kübler, a doctoral student in management science and member of the Organisations & Territoires des Arts, de la Culture et de la Création (OTACC) chair held by AMU's Institut de Management Public et Gouvernance Territoriale (IMPGT), is focusing her research on the digital mutations of organizations in the heritage and museum sector. It highlights virtual and augmented reality, video games and the digital arts as key strategic areas for establishments in the sector.

Grotte Cosquer: innovative conservation strategies

To meet the challenges of conservation, mediation and enhancement, heritage expertise combines digital humanities and technical expertise. Since 2020, the ARKAIA Institute for Mediterranean Archaeology has been offering historians and archaeologists the opportunity to work with specialists in digital science and technology, to propose innovative strategies for the conservation and enhancement of heritage threatened by human action or natural phenomena: the project concerning the Ancient Theatre of Orange is a case in point. The research carried out by AMU teams in the Cosquer cave, and the collaboration with the replica project currently underway, are another excellent example.
