Joëlle Zask discovered the philosopher John Dewey during her thesis on public opinion at Paris 8, thanks to her thesis supervisor Philippe Soulez. After becoming a lecturer in philosophy at Aix-Marseille in 2003, where she also obtained her Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches, she was supported by Jean-Pierre Cometti, with whom she developed her work on pragmatism. These experiences continue to inspire her to this day.

Redefining democratic culture and citizen participation

Joëlle Zask's work at the Institut d'Histoire de la Philosophie focuses on redefining the contours of democratic culture and participation in it. It is divided into 3 parts. First, art, or the understanding of what is at stake in everyone's participation in their own education through experience. Then comes work on the "outside", looking first at the development of dedicated spaces to encourage democratic life, then at our relationship with this "outside" through Nature, animals and the question of ecology.

In addition to writing numerous books and articles, Joëlle Zask has developed an intense activity as a lecturer, enabling her to encounter a wide variety of environments and learn from them the elements and issues that subsequently guide and nourish her research.
